Christmas in the Country: Green Christmas |
The New Castle News
I worked for the New Castle News in New Castle, Pennsylvania for two years from 2002-2004. I started out as an intern, then became a private contractor followed by being hired part-time. Starting out at a small paper (circulation 15,000) had its benefits. Not only did I get to write front page articles and features right out of the gate, but I was also part of the design desk and I designed the front page of the paper most days of the week as well as inside pages. I learned to write obituaries, turn press releases into articles, authored a bi-weekly column called "Youth Is Serving" and was even one of the pioneers of the "Quick Click," a daily e-mail newsletter that went out very early in the morning to subscribers to tease what was going to be in the paper that day. Here is just a sampling of what I've done.
